WTF is a terpene?

By now, many of us are familiar with CBD and THC, but cannabinoids are only part of what makes the cannabis/hemp plant so powerful. Terpenes, the primary elements of the essential oils in plants, are quickly becoming known for their key role in unlocking the full potential of the plant. They drive flavor, odor and color in a variety of plant-based beverages such as wine and tea. Terpenes are also responsible for the hemp plant’s flavor and aroma, and unlike other plants, each strain of cannabis has its own unique terpene profile. In studying the effect of terpenes, scientists look at each particular strain. Limonene, for instance, is found in high concentration in citrus fruit rinds.
